Rae

Here it is! After weeks of hard work, our finished product, 'Rae'!

Editing

The music has been picked, the voiceover has been recording, now everything is left for me to edit! With every project, there is going to be small obstacles you must get over. Originally I was going to use the Adobe Premiere Pro software, but turns out that we weren't done filming in time and I had to use Imovie. Imovie isn't terrible, but I couldn't necessarily use all the techniques I wanted to.

As I started editing, I noticed that the first 1:30 had enough dialogue to express the idea. We had a scene after that of the two girls talking, but it seemed like it dragged it out and was sort of pointless. I'm going to keep editing without the use of the next scene, and see how it looks. I hope that either way I chose to edit will be efficient in getting the main idea across. 

Post Production

We finally finished filming!! We are done with the production side of things and moving onto post production. I'm very glad to see how everything turned out. I'm confident that everything looks good and that we can produce an amazing video. What we have left is writing and creating the voice over, which will be done by Rachel. We need to find music we can legally download, probably from this website. And of course, we need to edit our video to create the finished product. Hopefully we can get this done soon!

Importance of quality

I soon realized how important minor details are when it comes to filming. At first, we were just going to use our phones to take the videos. Its easy, and we would be able to edit at any time. I found my nice Nikon camera and decided to take that route instead. I borrowed Mrs.Stoklosa's tripod, which really made a huge difference in the shots because they were so still. The equipment we had really played a part on how well the footage came out. Not only was the literal video better quality, but having real duty equipment made us feel more professional and excited about the project overall. So now I know that whenever I have the chance to go out of my way and use nice equipment instead of filming on a potatoe, I'll do so.  

We still have the last scene to film! We have to discuss tomorrow on what location we're going to do that at, because unfortnantly our other locations didn't work out. Our choices are the hallway, the courtyard, or at home. Once we figure that out, we'll film, and be finished! I'm going to stay after school to edit in the TV Production class since I like using Adobe Premiere which I can't access at home. I hope by the next post we'll be at least done filming. The project is starting to come together and so far it's going good. 

Acting

I was surprised at the amazing acting skills of Rachel and Taylor! At first, they were a bit giggly and it took a few times to get them in the zone, but once they were, we were set. Rachel first started out by acting out one of her monologues, and she executed it perfectly. Since we plan on muting that part and pairing it with a voice over, I was mostly scared that you wouldn't see the emotion of her acting. But it was great, she really showed the emotion and was very theatrical.

We actually planned on having one of Rachel's drama friends acting as Rae's best friend. Since it was sudden and not enough time in advance, we didn't have her friend so we used Taylor. After she got comfortable with the camera, she played the part perfectly. We wanted the friend to seem very uninterested in Rae. Taylor did this by talking with little emotion and going on her phone while talking.

Production Process

We finally started filming! We got permission to use the auditorium and it was so much better than I imagined. We messed with the spot light in the lighting room, and the effect of it looked amazing.

As we started filming the beginning monologue, we started to realize how cool the shots were. I played around with camera shots and composition, and I noticed that I could do something cool and different with the opening credits. We talked about how we could get random close-ups and pans of the auditorium paired with a title in the beginning, followed by the monologue. I thought it was a really interesting way to introduce the location and what the main character loves.
